How to Restore Mac to Factory Settings

In a case you need to restore your Macintosh computer to the original factory settings, you can use Disk Utility in the Mac OS X Installer.

Important Note: Before the restore, back up any files you want to keep by copying them to another disk because restoring the factory settings will delete everything on your computer such as user accounts, network settings, and all of your files.

To restore your Macintosh computer to the original factory settings, follow these steps.
1. Insert the Mac OS X installation disk, and double click on the Install Mac OS X icon.
Note: You can use Remote Install Mac OS X to restore the Mac to factory settings on a Mac without an optical drive, using another computer's optical drive.
2. In the Installer, click Utility, and then click Restart.
3. When the Language Choose appears, select your language, and click on the Computer button.
4. Choose Utility>Disk Utility.
5. Select the disk from the list on the left, and then click the Erase tab.
6. Select Mac OS Extended  from the Format pop-up menu, type a name for your disk, and then click Erase.
7. After the disk has been erased, choose Disk Utility>Quit Disk Utility, and then follow the Installation instruction to re-install the OSX.
