If a DJI drone doesn’t return after losing connection or in situations where Return to Home (RTH) doesn’t complete successfully, the last recorded GPS location can help locate the drone.
Steps to Access the Last Recorded GPS Location:
- Open the DJI App or RC Remote Controller. Tap Profile.
- Tap the Find My Drone.
- Follow the Map Directions by using the map to navigate to the drone’s last known location. The app may also allow you to activate a flashing light or sound on the drone if it’s still powered on, helping you locate it more precisely when you’re nearby.
Using the Coordinates
If you can’t locate the drone immediately:
- Write down the GPS coordinates displayed in the Find My Drone feature.
- Enter these coordinates into a GPS device or navigation app, like Google Maps, to navigate to the location.
Additional Precautions
- RTH Settings: Make sure the RTH altitude is set high enough to avoid trees, buildings, or other obstacles.
- Check Battery Level: If the battery level was very low, the drone may have landed instead of returning. This would mean it’s close to the last recorded GPS point, but possibly on the ground nearby.
The Find My Drone feature is one of the most reliable ways to recover a lost DJI drone when GPS information is available, making it an essential step in drone troubleshooting and recovery.
