Step by step how to configure DJI RTH Settings?

Configuring Return to Home (RTH) settings on your DJI drone ensures that it safely returns to you if it loses connection, encounters low battery, or if you initiate RTH manually. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

1. Turn on Your Drone and Remote Controller

  • Power on both your DJI drone and the remote controller.
  • Open the DJI Fly or DJI GO 4 app on your mobile device and connect to the drone.

2. Access the Main Settings

  • In the app’s main interface, tap on the three-dot menu (often in the top right corner).
  • This will open the main settings menu, where you can adjust various flight options.

3. Go to Safety Settings

  • In the settings menu, navigate to the Safety tab.
  • Under Safety, you’ll see options for Return to Home (RTH) settings.

4. Set the Home Point

  • You’ll find an option to Set Home Point in the RTH settings.
  • Choose one of the following options:
    • Aircraft Location: The drone will return to the location where it took off.
    • Remote Controller Location: The drone will return to the location of the remote controller. This is useful if you plan to move while the drone is in the air.

5. Adjust RTH Altitude

  • Locate the Return-to-Home Altitude setting in the same menu.
  • Set the altitude high enough to clear any obstacles (e.g., trees, buildings) in your flight area.
    • Recommendation: 30–50 meters (100–165 feet) for urban or forested areas, but adjust this based on the height of nearby obstacles.

6. Set Advanced RTH Options (Optional)

  • Obstacle Avoidance: Some DJI drones allow you to enable or disable obstacle avoidance during RTH.
    • Toggle this on to help the drone avoid obstacles on its way back.
  • Landing Protection: Some drones can sense the ground during RTH and avoid landing in unsuitable spots. Enable this if available.

7. Save Settings

  • Once you’ve configured your RTH settings, exit the menu to save them.
  • Your drone will now use these settings whenever RTH is triggered.

8. Test the RTH Settings (Optional but Recommended)

  • Take the drone to a safe open area, fly it a short distance away, and manually activate RTH by pressing the RTH button on the remote controller or in the app.
  • Observe the drone’s return behavior to ensure it ascends to the set RTH altitude and follows the configured settings.
  • You have two ways to operate the RHT. One is using controller button. Two is using DJI App.

By setting up RTH carefully, you’ll have greater peace of mind knowing the drone can return safely even if it encounters an issue mid-flight.
